Program Itinerary

Day 0: prep and food shop (Outdoor Link)

Day 1 Sunday, September 23rd: staff comes and meets the group at mid-afternoon to help set up, short small-group afternoon "get to know the area" hike; camp: Millpond

Day 2: Monday, September 24th: Climbing day Todd and Michael as climbing leaders, 2 other staff lead hikes - while 1/2 the group camps the other half climbs, switch at lunch; camp: Millpond. The climbing site is a 25 minute drive from camp.

Days 3 - 5 the group is divided into two sub groups, half the group in each. These groups should be carefully selected by teachers prior to the trip. Each group will hike a cache-supported route, moving camp each of the two nights. Each student will carry their own personal equipment for day hiking; all the food and kitchen will be cached. We can set it up so that sleeping bags and pads are cached, too. But let's make this as much of a "carry your own stuff" kind of trip as we can. The expectation should be that students are backpacking, self-contained out of their backpacks. We'll down-play the fact that food/kitchen and bags, pads, tents are being shuttled. Ideally the groups have no interaction with the shuttle vehicle.

Day 3: Tuesday, September 25th: Backpacking overnight experience: two groups w/ two leaders each hike point A to B (2 lead, 2 assistants, one of which is MG). If mixed gender groups then mixed gender staff teams. So staff = 3 plus MG

Day 4: Wednesday, September 26th: Climb Grouse Mountain, return to second backcountry camp

Day 5: Thursday, September 27th: Short (two to three hour) hike to vehicles and return to Millpond - we will set up a short stewardship project, around 2 - 3 hours, for the afternoon and before arriving back at Millpond. late afternoon: showers and celebration dinner.

Day 6: the 28th: break camp and return home.
