Photo stuff:

Photography is a hobby as well as something that we like to include as a program extra for our clientelle. I'm an aspiring amature and usually makes a point of sending folks good-quality photos of their trips. One way I do this is through links to the photo gallery. Right now most of my stuff is still up at the SMC photo gallery - but the one at this site is getting more content all the time.

Panos

Years ago, when the Earth was still cooling and digital photography meant scanning your film or slide images to digital files, I was into panoramic photography. The software was a bit tedious and Apple's Quicktime was new but decent 360 panoramas could be made.

Things have changed a bit and now it is easier than ever to have amazing panoramas - for viewing electronically via computer, or printing at absurd sizes.

I'm often adding to these; here is this fall's crop:

Piper Mountain Wilderness - Chocolate Mountain, December, 2006. This peak has a great view and is about a five hour round trip from the trailhead at Gilbert Summit, off of Highway 168, near Deep Springs. This file is 8mb.
Crater Mountain, just south of Big Pine, California; December 2006. Crater Mountain is a proposed Wilderness Area and is designated a Wilderness Study Area at the moment. This file is 2.5mb.
Tinemaha Reservoir - There is a seldom-visited scenic overlook just off the highway here. It is accessed from where the four lane goes down to two lanes and is marked as "wildlife view point". Well worth the stop. This is a 4mb file.

Sierra foothills, outside of Bishop, "Mt Barlow". This is a 6mb file.

Tablelands and White Mountains Panorama. This is a higher quality pano and is 14mb

Owens Valley "virtual" tour. This links the Crater, Table, and Sierra Foothills panos. 24mb file
